Favorite Sports

Exactly, hahah. Soccer is like 200x more fun to play than it is to watch. Football is more fun to play than to watch, but watching soccer is REALLY boring. Especially at the professional level. At least the little kids score more than 2 points in one game. Much more exciting.

Doesn't everyone love long walks on the beach and getting caught in the rain? ("If you like pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain...." ) (excuse me...)

Basketball is pretty much the only sport that I would rather watch than play (out of the TRUE sports.)

How would you guys define a sport?

And I asked for YOUR definition, since i didn't actually want the textbook answer, i kinda wanted examples.

Are the following sports:
Racing (NASCAR)
Cheerleading (Competitively)
Poker
Lumberjacking (Competitively)
Fishing (Competitively)
Weightlifting (Competitively)
Bingo
Gaming (Like video games)
Le Parkour (Look it up if you don't know what it is)
Skatebording (Competitively)
Hot Dog Eating (Competitively)
Figure Skating
Horseback Riding

Many of these show up on ESPN, although many don't believe them to being really a sport (Poker being one of the biggest ones for me). Technically, by definition, they are all sports since they all require skill and/or physical activity and they are competitive. The question you have to ask is how much "Physical activity" has to be involved to be able to fulfill the requirement in the definition, since even clicking a mouse can be considered "activity" as work is taking place (from a pysicics standpoint, no matter how minimal)

I think ESPN caters to professional competition rather than Sports per se. Out of that list, I don't consider Poker, Gambling, Gaming, especially hot dog eating, and Bingo to be sports, everything else can be if you stretch it's definition, but I can't ever consider the ones I listed as sports, ever. Not even Wii Sports XD

Cheerleading to me seems more like an organized dance routine than a sport (especially high school cheerleading oO), but I can be convinced otherwise XD

Also, I think we call it Street Acrobats here. Though I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah, I don't even consider sports when you "win" by a judge's opinion. I think that its not a sport unless theres a clear set of rules that determine the points/who is out/how to win. Seems like all the judging "sports" are just like "competitions" to me. Therefore out of that list, things like Cheerleading, Horse Riding, Figure Skating, Diving (Its not on the list, but it should be) are not considered sports to me.

Plus, would you say that Dancing isn't a sport? If it is competitive? Plenty of physical activity and skill...

we wouldnt be having this discussion about what a sport is.
Nascar isnt a sport, driving in general isnt a sport
its more like a hobby

Yeah, most the things on that list i don't consider sports, because, for the most part, it doesn't require that much psychical activity. Yes, it gets really hot in a race car, but sitting in a sauna isn't a sport either....
